A Block Panchayat is the intermediate tier of the three-level Panchayati Raj system in Kerala. It functions as a vital link between the Gram Panchayats and the District Panchayat, ensuring coordination, planning, and implementation of development programmes. The Block Panchayat plays a significant role in promoting the socio-economic development of rural communities by implementing various welfare and infrastructure projects.

Karadka Block Panchayat comprises the seven Gram Panchayats of Karadka, Kuttikol, Bedadka, Muliyar, Kumbadaje, Bellur, and Delampady, covering an extensive area that includes significant forest regions. The Payaswini, Vavadukkam, and Karicheri rivers flow through the Block Panchayat, enriching its natural landscape.The region is characterized by a blend of midland and highland terrain, with its eastern boundary adjoining the State of Karnataka. Spanning an area of 372.4 square kilometres, much of the land consists of laterite soil. The Gram Panchayats of Kumbadaje, Bellur, Karadka, and Muliyar also encompass cashew and rubber plantations owned by the Plantation Corporation.The extensive use of the pesticide Endosulfan in the past has had a significant adverse impact on the region's environment. History of Block Panchayat

The Karadka Block was established on November 1, 2010, with its headquarters at Karmathodi. It was formed with the aim of fostering the social and economic upliftment of a highly underprivileged population living in the linguistically diverse region of North Kerala. The block incorporates seven Grama Panchayats: Kumbadaje and Bellur from the Manjeshwaram Block Panchayat limits, and Bedadka, Delampady, Muliyar, Karadka, and Kuttikol from the Kasaragod Block Panchayat limits.
